Course Description
In this course, students will continue to explore various ceramic construction techniques, such as hand-building with slabs and coils and sculpting. A great deal of time will be spent learning how to throw on a potter’s wheel. Various glazing techniques will be explored. Students will learn how to reclaim clay, create slip, mix glazes, experiment with alternative firing techniques, and how to load and unload a kiln. You will do all sketching for ideas in your sketchbook that you will keep in class. The sketchbook must be submitted with your projects.
A Sketchbook is required for this course.
Wheel Requirements:
Each student will be assigned a quarter to learn how to throw on the potter's wheel. By the end of the quarter you will be responsible for creating 4 pieces on the wheel. Half way thru the quarter, you must demonstrate to Mr. Graber that you can throw a proper 4-inch cylinder shape. This is worth 30 points. Mr. Graber will demonstrate what a proper 6-inch cylinder looks like.
