About Me
Born and raised in the Reading area, I attended Wyomissing from elementary through graduation. I have a Bachelor’s degree from Penn State and a teaching certification from Millersville University. I've been teaching at Wilson High School since 2013.
As an English teacher, I define the word “text” in broad terms. Although I believe the traditional novels, short stories, and poetry will and should always have their rightful place in reading and writing classes, I am also passionate about all other forms of “alternative” texts, including (but not limited to) film/video, television, radio, advertising, blogs/vlogs, music, social media, and even video games. I believe all of these rich forms of media can improve our literacy and communication skills.
Things I believe:
I believe we tend to place too much significance on insignificant things.
I believe whoever said, “Don’t sweat the small stuff,” should be given the Nobel Peace Prize.
I believe lines are meant to be drawn over and walls are meant to be scaled.
I believe the people living on the direct opposite side of the Earth from me have loved as I have loved, have cried as I have cried, and have danced as I have danced.
I believe different doesn’t mean dissimilar, no matter what the Thesaurus tells me.
I believe the fact that all humans are 99.9 percent genetically the same is a beautiful thing.
I believe you can tell a lot about someone from the type of media he/she consumes, so I’ve listed my favorites below:
Book: Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Movie: Hoop Dreams directed by Steve James
TV Show: Freaks and Geeks created by Paul Feig
Play: The Crucible by Arthur Miller
Music Album: The Crane Wife by The Decemberists
Magazine: The Sun
Radio Program: National Public Radio
