Work and Behavior Expectations

GRADE 5 BEHAVIOR,   HOMEWORK, and   GRADING

BEHAVIOR

Please see the Parent/Student Handbook for the all-school discipline program.

GRADING

The goal of assignment completion is that student work should be of high quality and as error free as possible. Assignments in all content areas will be assessed with regard to neatness, grammar, language mechanics, spelling, and legibility.

Late Assignments will receive the following deductions:

1 day late  = 10% off

2 days late = 20% off

3 days late = 30% off

More than 3 days late = 50% off.

Any missing assignment  will receive no credit until it is turned in. Please check your student's online gradebook through the Parent Portal frequently to check for late and/or missing assignments.

If you see a zero, this means the assignment either has not been turned in or has yet to be graded when late. These assignments will be marked late, incomplete, or missing.

Illness, family emergencies, and other circumstances will be taken  into account when grading late assignments.

Tests, Quizzes, and Projects are worth 100 points.

In school work is usually graded and points depend upon the assignment.

HOMEWORK

Students will keep track of all assignments in their notebooks. These are kept on their desks throughout the day. Students are required to write down the assignments as they are given. About 45-60 minutes of homework will be assigned each night. (Weekends will be lighter!)

By fifth grade, students should be completing their homework as independently as possible. They may still need assistance in checking over and proofreading their work.

Students should be studying for tests on their own. Study skills are taught in the classroom to practice at home.  Study Guides will be provided for review. It is then appropriate for a parent to quiz or review with the student.

If you notice your child struggling to complete homework, please call. We  can work on strategies to solve these problems. Let's work together! Assignments that have been typed at home can be emailed to me or shared through Google docs.

Be sure to send the assignment from a parent's email address or shared through your child’s SCHOOL email address only.

Also, please remember that sports (games or practices) are not an acceptable reason for not completing homework.
