We highly recommend watching "Under the Silverlake". Follow the white Rabbit into the bowels of Hollywood Pop Culture, fasten the seat belts and enjoy the ride. Reminiscent of "The Wizard of Oz", "Alice in Wonderland", David Bowie's "Labyrinth", the trailer lets you think you get on the Sandra Bullock driven Bus in "Speed", only. to find out that your driver is actually David Lynch, while you meander along Mulholland highway in a black Limousine. Spiderman / Facebook famed Andrew. Garfield does an awesome job as well as Riley Keough. Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride of this adventure, which feels like 500 days of Summer meets "But not tonight" by Depeche Mode.
When Borat comes to Bella Italia...
"Gucci is a rare animal. It must be protected". What is up with these strange Italian accents? Lady Gaga and Adam Driver especially. Love the design, location shots and especially the marble table. Al Pacino is always a gift to the screen. Is it ok to profit from a real life tragedy?
Jeremy Irons delivers a strong performance in "House of Gucci". Jared Leto is entertaining. Some lines are hard to understand in this "Lifetime Bio Pic". Somehow the reviewer had expected "Chinatown" meets "Godfather". Being a fan of "Alien" and other Ridley Scott works and a fan of Italian designers one gets beautiful images, but maybe should play this film MOS, since the dialogue is tedious to hear. The Italian songs are nice, just missing Adriano Celentano and Paolo Conte.
Having had high expectations, the eye is more than satisfied. Since Salma Hayek knows the fashion industry, one wonders what is her take on this film. She rocks her part as Pina Auriemma & her accent is believable, although also not Italian.
Should one attempt an accent or dialect that one does not own? Casting directors often tell Acting folks not to use a fake accent or dialect, but then we have "Borat".
Loved Adam Driver in Lena Dunham's TV Series "Girls" and in "BlacKkKlansman". Maurizio Gucci feels like "Borat" where "Brüno" would have been a better fit.
Entertaining to watch for all Lovers of fast cars, beautiful gowns and "Jersey Shore".
Interesting side note. When most of thee stores were boarded up in New York City during the Pandemic and Riots, Gucci was one of the only design stores still funcioning. Was it because nobody wants the products?
Nope, because the Italian luxury goods maker is situated at Trump Tower, which was guarded.
Was it Samuel Johnson, who quipped: "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford"? Maret, the protagonist of "Polar" seems to be the usual troublemaker, like any one of us. A "disruptress". We follow her on the quest of finding her core or anything, really. Director Laura Schroeder not only secured funding for this film, but was able to extract some fine performances out of the Actors.
Susanne Wolff (Maret) · Iben Hjejle (Dr. Moore) · Álvaro Cervantes (Arnau) · Stephan Kampwirth (Thomas) · Filip Peeters (Elias).
Is Alex von Roon right, when he feels a dose of Michel Houellebecq, Kaspar Hauser and Christopher Nolan's "Memento" sprinkled in for good measure? We are immediately intrigued by the topic of Lost Soul & Lanzarote.
In comes a Frankenstein scenario, or is it Neuralink à la Elon Musk?
Since CERN is currently busy with Antimatter, the audience might ask, why does "Maret" / "Polar" matter? Does it include a play on words like "Bi Polar"? Why should we care? Support movies such as this one?
"Polar" exhibits, what matters to some. It is interesting to see the protagonist experience what Family, Friends, Lovers & the Art Scene think of her. This film is an ongoing intriguing Happening or un Cochemar? (The 60's are calling, Baby). What a relief, that the director is female. Kudos for the cinematography by Laurent Brunet. Actor Stephan Kampwirth is convincing and "ehrlich".
