Archive Project
The Archive Project at Sequoia High School was started by Glen Michaelson in the 80s. After his passing, the containers of documents were left untouched for 15 years. As the stewards of the library moved on, the physical items were left in boxes, with no representation on the web. With the remodel of the Media Center, the project gained momentum as the need to make these items accessible was accelerated, as the physical items would be stored securely off site. With the project now in the hands of the current Library Media Specialist, Betsy Snow, the appeals are gaining traction as they are brought into the collective conscience.
Here is the work she has done to bring this archive to the public in the following ways:
Communicating the importance of preservation
Presenting to stakeholders for buy-in to fundraise
Create lesson plans to share with students using the resources as primary documents.
This project is on-going, and this page will update regularly.
EXAMPLE OF CLASSROOM Resources
With the archives tucked away all of these years, Ms. Snow has made handouts to highlight how students might use these sources in their research. Of special note are the handwritten journals containing loyalty oaths of the Japanese Students in December, 1941.
