What is a database? A database is a collection of information that is organized so that it can be easily accessed, managed, and updated.  Think of it as a file cabinet full of articles, even full-length books, that you can access digitally.  Most databases are paid for by subscription like a magazine, though some databases are free (e.g. Medline Plus.gov).
