About Sean
Sean Cota has more than 35 years of experience in the heating fuels industry. Mr. Cota is a highly regarded professional in the oil and power industry with a national and international perspective and reputation.
Mr. Cota has testified before Congress and the CFTC more than ten (10) times as a subject matter expert on energy trading market functions, and in the areas of swaps, futures, options, and other non-regulated, structured financial products. He was an instrumental part of the Commodity Markets Oversight Collation, which was responsible for commodity trading reform in the world commodity trading markets subsequent to the 2008 world financial collapse.
He has served in many energy industry board positions including: President & CEO of the National Energy & Fuels Institute, Chairman of the Petroleum Marketers Association of America (now EMA), President for the New England Fuel Institute, and a board director and First Vice Chair of the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA) and National Association For Oilheat Research and Education (NAORE), but to name a few.
He is the past president and third generation owner of one of the most successful and innovative fuel marketing businesses in New England, which continues today under the leadership of his capable younger brother, Casey.
Current Position:
Mr. Cota is the President & Principal of SeanCota.com. LLC, advising company in energy policy and practices. Mr. Cota also is the President of Talon Development LLC, developing, identifying and financing of various power projects to assist in energizing power grids and other facilities in the new dynamically changing energy environment with its need for electricity and grid stability.
He has been quoted in the media, including CNBC, MSNBC, Bloomberg News, The Financial Times, Reuters, ABC News, OPIS, Oil Heat Magazine, Fuel Oil News, Oil Heating, Oil & Energy, and appeared in a front-page article of the Wall Street Journal on the heating oil industry and on CBS’s 60 Minutes.
Education:
Mr. Cota is a graduate of Kimball Union Academy (Class of 1981) and Wilkes University (1986) where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business. Mr. Cota has participated in several post graduate leadership programs including MIT Business Professor Aldo Hax at Princeton University, and Tuck Business School at Dartmouth College Revers Center for Energy, Sustainability and Innovation.
