Find and use information and resources that will help them make confident, empathetic, socially responsible, and informed decisions.
Take pride in their ability to make choices based on strong values and positively affect others.
Belief Statement:
The Southeast Warren School Counseling Program believes that all students:
have the ability to be successful
deserve to be treated with dignity
should be taught social, academic, and career skills in a preventive and proactive manner as they grow and develop
feel supported, safe, and connected
have access to a comprehensive School Counseling Program that is developed and delivered in a collaborative format and makes ethical and data driven decisions
Guidance Staff
Shelley Mitzelfelt, Dean of Students
I began my career earning a degree in psychology from Morningside College and went to work as a Program Manager running a sheltered workshop and five bed waiver home for handicapped adults. This experience led me to pursue my teaching degree in special education. I began teaching in 1999 in a small district in southern Iowa. My husband and I and our four children came to Southeast Warren in 2001, where I began as a Special Education and Junior High reading teacher. I am a lifelong learner, and after coming to Southeast Warren, I chose to continue my education graduating from Morningside College where I earned my Masters in Special Education. I then attended Viterbo University earning my Administrative degree. I currently serve Southeast Warren as Dean of Students and District Special Education Director. I have come to love the Southeast Warren Community and our students. I am passionate about helping our students pursue their dreams and develop into productive citizens. I am proud to be a Warhawk!
Schedule:
Monday-Friday: SEW Jr-Sr High; 1 day per week (usually Wednesday) in Martensdale St. Mary's as Special Education Director
Jodi Clendenen, School Counselor
I am a graduate of Southeast Warren and have lived in this community most of my life. I attended Graceland University where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology. I worked for several years in the college community, first in Admissions and then as a College Director. That experience showed me how important it is to help our young people navigate social situations, become strong students, and advocate for themselves. I decided to continue my education at Drake University to pursue my Master's of Science in Education, specializing in School Counseling, so that I could work with younger students. I returned to Southeast Warren as the K-12 School Counselor in 2012. I am so excited to raise my family in this community and will always be proud to say that I am a Warhawk!

I worked with 2nd and 3rd grade students before my move and am eager to learn more from students in this district.
