I have been teaching in the San Dieguito Union High School Diststrict since 1995. Before that I attended college at the University of California, Davis, then received my teaching credential and Masters Degree in Education at the University of California, Los Angeles. I graduated from Torrey Pines High School in this same district.
Twice in my life I have lived in foreign countries; once as a college student, in Madrid, Spain, then later as a professional in Santiago, Chile. I have firsthand knowledge of being a language learner, though I had the advantage of being an adult and having studied my second language extensively before landing in the countries where it's spoken.
Here at Carmel Valley Middle School, where I've been a teacher since the school opened, I've taught English 7, Spanish 1 and 2, Reading Support, all levels of ELD (English Language Development), Sheltered English, Study Skills, and College & Career Readiness.
I am passionate about languages and literacy, and love to both read and write. In addition, I enjoy traveling, camping (in a tent!), cooking, playing soccer and other sports, dancing, running, hiking, and spending time with my family. On a daily basis I am fascinated by how my own children are acquiring language and navigating the school experience, and I love to watch our students here at CVMS develop new language, academic, and life skills.
