NHS application information
The information you provide in your application will allow the Faculty Council to accurately evaluate your character, commitment to service, demonstration of leadership, and dedication to scholarship. Membership in the National Honor Society is an honor and a privilege, thus completion of the application does not guarantee membership. Only students who are not active members must complete this application to acquire membership in the National Honor Society. Current members, who are in good standing, DO NOT need to re-apply.
Eligibility Criteria:
· Candidates eligible for selection must be members of the Junior or Senior class (in the 2024-2025 school year)
· To be eligible for selection the candidate must have been enrolled for a period equivalent to one semester at La Costa Canyon High School
· Candidates eligible for selection to the chapter shall have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
· Candidates eligible for selection to the chapter shall have no instance(s) of Academic Dishonesty and/or Loss of Privileges [Students may include justifications in their application if they believe they should still be eligible]
· Upon meeting the above criteria candidates shall then be considered based on their character, commitment to service, demonstration of leadership, and dedication to scholarship
Required items you must prepare:
A 250-500 word essay describing what kind of person you are, as well as why you belong in NHS. Save as PDF.
A resume which must contain: current extra curricular activities, personal achievements, community service, club involvement.
Must include timelines for each item.

An unofficial transcript for grades 9-current. Keep your student ID number clear and readable.
No letter of recommendation is required.
Suggestions:
ESSAY
Focus on YOUR achievements, not a relative's achievements. Discuss your personal merit that warrants membership in NHS.
Provide a full picture of who you are rather than focusing on only one area such as sports, community service etc.
Discuss personal experience in community service and leadership.
Include personal current and future goals and how NHS will help you obtain those goals
List personal goals and accomplishments as a scholar
Add how being a member of NHS will affect your life moving forward
Justification of gaps in resume and/or transcript
RESUME
Include your title at each position as well as your responsibilities
Include any/ all current extra curricular activities
Include a range of dates to provide a timeline of your involvement with that organization, achievements etc.
