About Mrs. Naraghi-Smythe

Dear Students and Parents:

Hola! Bienvenidos! Welcome to the new school year.

I have been teaching at Earl Warren Middle School since 1999. I speak four languages: Persian, English, French and Spanish. I took Spanish and French as double majors in college, and I have enjoyed studying both languages tremendously. I have my Bachelor degree from San Diego State University in Spanish and French with a minor in Political Science. I received my Single Subject Credential from San Diego State University in 1994 and I completed my Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in Global Education in July 2011. I have taught Spanish 1 and 2, ELD, World History, US History and AVID through my teaching career, and I love working with middle school students. I enjoy experiencing new countries and my travels have taken me around the world to beautiful places such as France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein, Mexico, Canada, England, Israel and Australia. Spending time in Spain and Mexico has really solidified the Spanish language for me, and I feel those experiences have enriched my life tremendously. I am married to an Aussie (from Sydney, Australia) and we both enjoy good food, good music, good films (especially foreign and independent movies) and traveling.

The general goals of my class are to instill in each student a love of language study and of learning, an appreciation for other cultures, and most importantly, basic communication skills in the language. Therefore, Spanish will be the language of my classroom. However, I do not expect students to understand 100% of what I say. I will encourage and empower students to communicate in Spanish, but always in a caring and nurturing manner that reflects the student’s best interest and dignity. It takes many years of dedicated study and practice to achieve proficiency in a language. Learning a language is a life-long, worthwhile process and I am honored to be your guide as you begin this wonderful journey.
