Frequently Asked Questions

1. What can I do for additional practice?

- Use the study tips and links that I provide with each HW assignment in Google Classroom.

- I strongly suggest the online activities, extra practice, Quizlet, and videos on our Spanish Resources Page

- Study flashcards, notes, warm-ups, class work, homework, book, Online Textbook.

- The tutoring center on campus is a great resource and it is free.

- I have former students who are interested in tutoring for hire and I can pass that information on.

- I am also available to help out during lunch or after school.

2. What opportunities are available for extra credit?

- Hopefully, it will be unnecessary for extra credit, let’s do everything to be as pro-active as possible.

- Emergency bathroom passes are available for buyback if the student is eligible (less than 3 tardies and no Unexcused Absences).

- There might also be a very small amount of extra credit announced later in the semester for those that are eligible.

3. I don't like tests. How will I get a decent grade?

- I understand test anxiety. We’ll use a variety of methods to gauge student progress including: written quizzes, exams, skits, presentations, and group/individual projects.

- By taking short quizzes on an almost daily basis, my hope is that students will grow accustomed to being assessed on their learning and have the opportunity to make adjustments before an exam.

- Generally, detailed information regarding an exam is presented in class, in the text, and online to alleviate any fears.

- Please ask for more time if you need it. You can take a clipboard outside to finish.

4. Why are you so strict with the Monday make-ups for exams/quizzes.

- Students do much better when they make up their assessments sooner than later.

- Also, I have close to 200 assessments come through my desk every week so it's a logistically impossible to schedule makeups at random.

5. I'm scared of talking in front of the class. How will I do well on the dramas?

- As a student I hated talking in front of the class so I can understand. Work extra hard at all the little partner work every class, follow all instructions, be familiar with the drama rubric, use phrases that we've learned and you'll do just fine.

6. Why do you ban plastic water bottles in your class?

- Over the years, the use of plastic water bottles in my class grew to be excessive and most of them weren't making it to the large recycle bins. LCC, unfortunately, doesn't have the storage capability or resources to recycle such a large volume of water bottles on a daily basis.

- Reusable bottles are a fraction of the price and have less of a negative impact on LCC and the environment.

7. Why do you ban food and drinks (other than water) in your class?

- Ants! Our room is very quickly infested with ants at any sign of food. It makes for an uncomfortable setting for students if ants are crawling on them.

-Years ago I allowed students to eat and found that it distracted other hungry students and I found myself having to pick up trash after every class.

- Please eat before school, during break, or at lunch to help us maintain a clean and distraction free learning environment.
