School Social Workers work with students to:

  • Understand themselves and others

  • Learn skills to manage their feelings and behavior

  • Improve relationships and communication with peers and adults

School Social Workers work with parents to:

  • Understand their child’s social and emotional needs

  • Support their child’s academic, social and emotional growth

Ms. Maureen Kernan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, in addition to being a certified School Social Worker. She began her School Social Work career in 1998 and has received advanced clinical training with a specialization in working with children and adolescents at the Institute for Clinical Social Work in Chicago.

Referrals can be made by student self-referral, teacher, parent or administrator when a child's social emotional functioning is impacting their academic or overall school functioning.
