Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does my child need to be pulled from the classroom to receive social work support?

A: No. We run student lunch time groups, go into classrooms and the lunchroom, and go out to recess to support students. We also provide consultation with teachers.

Q: How long are the social work interns at Middleton?

A: Graduate social work interns are at Middleton for the duration of one school year. They are at Middleton on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays.

Q: Is there a stigma for children who receive social work services?

A: There are some students who are sensitive to seeing the social workers. In these cases, we allow students to walk on their own to our office. Most students at the elementary level are not sensitive to being seen with the social workers and we find that their friends wish they could join us as well.

Q: If my child sees a social worker, do they need to see them for the entire school year?

A: No. We are flexible in how we deliver support and the duration of supports.

Q: Who will you share information about my family with?

A: We will call Social Services to report suspected abuse or neglect. We maintain strict confidentiality. We only share information with other agencies when we have written consent. If we conduct a social and health history, this information is shared with student services, but only as it pertains to medical issues.
