❄️SNOW DAY❄️ PROCEDURES

Inclement Weather and Snow Day Procedures

There are three possible scenarios for Salt Spring Island schools during inclement weather:

1) Buses running on main roads only: Schools are open as normal but the buses will be running on the main roads only, which means there is no Bus 2 (Beaver Point Road). Parents should listen to one of the following radio stations to hear announcements regarding bus service: CJSU 89.7 FM Duncan, CBC Radio 1 690 AM, CBC Radio 1 Victoria 9O.5 FM and CFSI 1O7.9 FM Salt Spring. Marie will also send an email out to the parents and a notice will be posted on the district website. See the following link for a main roads only schedule: Main Roads Only Route

2) Buses and/or water taxis not running yet School Is Open: Most students will likely not attend yet school is open. Parents should listen to one of the following radio stations to hear announcements regarding bus service: CJSU 89.7 FM Duncan, CBC Radio 1 690 AM, CBC Radio 1 Victoria 9O.5 FM and CFSI 1O7.9 FM Salt Spring. Marie will also send an email out to make this announcement if there isn’t a power outage and a notice will be posted on the school district website. Please use your discretion to decide if it is safe to transport your child to and from school.

3) Schools closed: Only in the most extreme cases would the school actually be closed. In this situation, Marie will send an email out to the parents and class phone trees will be activated to notify parents of the closure (for the few parents in each class who have requested a phone call). Announcements will again be made on the radio. * Please note: the phone trees will only be activated in the event of a school closure. In the other situations, it is parents’ responsibility to listen for announcements on the radio regarding bus service or check for an email from Marie. Notices are also posted on the front page of the district website.
