Writing

Fourth graders love to write! The students will have many opportunities to express themselves through writing. For example, they will reflect on their learning through journal writing. Also, they will practice expository, persuasive, narrative, and poetry writing. In reading, they will study text structure and author's craft. They then will use these mentor texts as examples and apply what they have learned to their own pieces. The students will continue to put into practice the 6-Traits of writing. Fourth graders will learn how to write effectively with good ideas, proper conventions, creative word choice, personal voice, sequential organization, and sentence fluency. They will grow as writers through mini-lessons and teacher modeling of each individual trait. It is wonderful to watch fourth grade students grow as writers and thinkers!
