Finding the gist (main idea), inferring, author's purpose, author’s viewpoint, generalizing, cause and effect, fact and opinion, steps in a process, plot, characters, setting, graphic sources, theme and genres.

Students are required to read on their own at school and at home daily. When they finish a book, they can take a 10 question quiz at school. Each book has a point value based on its level, vocabulary, and length.
Trimester 1: Meets 9 points. Exceeds 18 points
Trimester 2: Meets 16 points. Exceeds 24 points
Trimester 3: Meets 18 points. Exceeds 30 points
** If a student earns an exceeds point value, they will be able to participate in a celebration at the end of the trimester.
