Imaging support

Images of the recovered core sample material are critically important to illustrate descriptions at all scales. Several types of images are supported on the JOIDES Resolution:

• Macroscopic description support

  • Whole-round section images

  • Section-half images

  • Close-up images

• Microscopic description support

  • Thin section images

  • Microphotographs (from microscopes)

  • Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
