Research in my Lab evolves around the interest of its researchers. Thus, if you are planning to join in my Lab, please do not necessarily go by the list given in 'ongoing research' page very seriously. The list indicates what we are currently engaged with. This list may not necessarily have influence on what you would like to do. Please see Ongoing Research page for a description of my research interests for now.
Currently in my Laboratory, we do research in the broad fields of Marine Ecology and Ecotoxicology which provide :
Research scopes at Gujarat coastline / Mainland Coastal India
Research on the physiological effects of POPs and D & P effluent on mice model
If you wish to join in my Lab, what you are expected to work on?
Although my primary interest lies in diversity, distribution and community ecology of intertidal invertebrate fauna and ecotoxicological studies on mice model, my students are free to work on whatever they please, provided they fulfill certain conditions as outlined below:
I am open to working on any research topic in the broad field of ecology & evolution and animal physiology, as long as it is interesting and useful. This means that I plan to give full freedom to my students to choose research topic (s) / model system(s)/ methodologies, provided:
The research topic is hypotheses driven, useful and interesting (in my view), and
Lies within the broad framework of ecology & evolution, or Ecotoxicology, and
The proposed work is actually feasible by the proposing student, in the light of the various practical constraints in the lab.
In case the students unable to think of a suitable problem within a reasonable time-frame, I would help them choose a hypothesis based research problem of mutual interest. Therefore, the researches addressed in the lab keep on changing and currently include the ones listed on the Ongoing Research page.
Apart from skills in handling the model organism / extensive field work, our kind of research demands some degree of proficiency in statistics, bioinformatics and computer programming (if needed).
The other important feature of the lab is an almost equal emphasis on theory and experiments. Simply put, any member of my lab is expected to be inclined to research, proficient in extensive field work and productive in research.
Admission is as per UGC and SU's guidelines, The successful candidates who clears the DRC will go through a preregistration coursework for a semester
Registered Ph.D. Scholars can apply and compete for various Fellowships available in the Department from time to time.
