Math-

Fourth grade is a fun year when students apply many of the foundational skills learned k-3. We start multiplying multi-digit numbers as well as some long division. Fractions is also a large part of our math curriculum. We start adding and multiplying fractions. We also introduce decimals.

Please help your child by practicing all math facts!

Writing-

Students write in three different genres; opinion, expository, and narrative. We also learn how to write compound and complex sentences using prepositional phrases.

Students write most assignments in cursive.

Science

Our for science units are Energy, Earth's Processes, Animal & Plant Functions, and Waves of Sound. We use Mystery Science as a tool to help students investigate, learn, and draw conclusions.

Reading-

We combine Wonders and our guided reading to teach the different genres of reading. We learn about sequencing events, cause and effect, citing text evidence to support our answers, and summarizing. Many of our novels and passages are based on social studies and science topics. We try to integrate students' reading with learning and connecting to other content areas.

Spelling-

Students choose their own spelling words each week based on their own writing and what words they feel they need to practice. We use their words to do word work and learn these words for their own benefit.

Social Studies-

New Hampshire and New Hampshire history are a very large part of fourth grade curriculum in social studies. Students receive their first textbook, NH Studies, and we follow it very closely as we progress throughout the year. Again, we make many connections to other content areas throughout the year.
