The Harold Martin School Preschool Program is an inclusive preschool which seeks to provide opportunities for all children to learn and play together. Developmentally appropriate materials are provided in a learning environment fostering respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery. Language development and social skills are emphasized throughout the preschool day. For those students in need of specialized programs, implementation of services most often occurs within the natural environment created within the preschool routines. Parents are encouraged to participate in their child's education through volunteer opportunities and attendance at special events such as Open House. A classroom newsletter is available for parents to stay up-to-date on what their child is learning in the preschool classroom and offers tips on furthering their learning at home.

Classrooms are staffed by certified educators with backgrounds in early childhood education and special education. Our highly trained teachers share a broad spectrum of knowledge in learning styles and instructional strategies. In addition to our teachers, our staff includes speech and language pathologists, a speech and language specialist and assistant, and a certified occupational therapy assistant. Classroom instructional assistants provide support to the teachers in meeting the needs of the students.

Our location at Harold Martin School allows us access to other specialists, but more importantly, encourages students to recognize their roles in a larger community of learners.

Questions and Answers

What is an inclusive preschool?

An inclusive preschool program is one where typically developing peers attend school alongside peers who have special needs. An inclusive preschool integrates services into all aspects of the program which benefits both those with special needs and typically developing children.

What does a typical day look like?

Harold Martin Preschool teachers recognize the importance of predictable schedules when it comes to the development of your child. Our classroom schedules and routines are designed to provide students with opportunities to learn the expectations of a school environment, encouraging feelings of security and preparedness, while also influencing their emotional, cognitive, and social development. A typical day in preschool may include times for: table top activities, puzzles, meeting (circle), choice, snack, story, and outdoor play.

Do you serve snack?

Sharing snack together is an important part of our preschool day. We ask that each child bring a snack to eat. Due to the potential of severe nut and peanut allergies in our room, we ask that parents refrain from packing snacks containing peanut butter or nuts. Snack is available for those families who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Milk is also available to purchase at a reduced rate.
