Digital Design

Program Overview

Students explore the graphic design industry, the role of the designer, design theory, industry standard tools and practical hands-on design techniques in a four course (two year) program open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Students who complete the program and meet the required competencies while maintaining a “C” average will achieve completer status in the program.

Articulation Agreement

Digital Design 1 offers students the chance to earn three college credits at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) for GRA 101 Basic Design and Color Theory.

To get a transcript of the college credits, students must go through SNHU.

Industry Certification Options

The Adobe Certified Associate is an industry-recognized credential that demonstrates proficiency in Adobe digital skills.

Students are required to obtain one certification in one of the Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, or After Effects) and highly encouraged to obtain as many as possible.

Courses

DIGITAL DESIGN 1 1 Credit | 1 Semester Grades 10-12

Digital Design is graphic design for today’s digital world. You’ll be introduced to Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and design theory (how to make a design “look pretty”). Example projects: logos, posters, album covers, t-shirts, web design. Community based projects allow students to work in real world situations. Presentation of the final project takes the place of a final exam.

Headphones are required for this course.

DIGITAL DESIGN 2 1 Credit | 1 Semester Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Digital Design I

Students expand on skills learned in Digital Design 1 and apply them to more comprehensive designs. Emphasis is on learning to think like a designer and being creative while interpreting a client’s message. Community based projects allow students to work in real world situations. Presentation of the final project takes the place of a final exam.

Headphones are required for this course.

DIGITAL DESIGN 3 1 Credit | 1 Semester Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Digital Design 2

Students learn web design dreamweaver, html and css. Students continue working on graphic design projects. Students develop a physical and web portfolio. Presentation of the final project takes the place of a final exam.

DIGITAL DESIGN 4 1 Credit | 1 Semester Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Digital Design 3

Students learn motion graphic techniques. Students continue working on graphic design projects and learning common graphic design practices, including collaboration, design process, time-management skills and project management. Presentation of the final project takes the place of a final exam.
