CULTURES: Ways of living in an environment
Nomadic: Moving from place to place, no settled home
Cultural Regions: Areas that are grouped together that have similar cultural characteristics
Artifacts: Objects made by humans. They could be clothing, tools, and whatever other natural resources were found in a region.
Pink: Eastern Woodlands: eastern region from Ohio Valley to Mississippi River. 4 Seasons. Many rivers and forests. The Algonquian Tribes lived here.
Red: Southeast: From the Eastern Atlantic Ocean to around the Gulf of Mexico. Hot and Humid. Swamps, and home to alligators, deer, snakes, and tall palm trees. The Seminole lived here.
Light Blue: Great Plains: Central area of US. Wide, flat, grassy plains. Many grazing animals such as buffalo roamed here. The Sioux lived in this region.
Yellow: Southwest: Home of the Hopi. In Arizona, California, New Mexico. Hot summers, cold winters. Very little rain.
Orange: California-Intermountain: Pacific Coast to the Great Basin (Utah today) Part was desert, part of region was coast on Pacific. Mild climate with rich resources. The Pomo lived here.
Green: Plateau: Between Cascade and Rocky Mountains. Hot summers and freezing winters. Large rivers for water. Trees near mountains, but other areas are thick grasses and few trees. The Yakima lived here.
Purple: Northwest Coast: Today Oregon and Washington. Rainy, high mountains. Used cedar to make things as found in abundance in region. The Tlingit lived here.
