Grades

Welcome to a new school year!  I'm so excited to have you in my class.  I'm here to help you succeed in every way possible.  I've put together this sheet to show you how grades will be calculated throughout the year.                                                      

Homework  10%

Homework is given as a chance to reinforce content covered in class.  Late homework will be awarded a maximum of 70%.  Missing homework earns zero points.  Work will be accepted up to the week before marks close for the quarter.

 Responsibility 10%

Be prepared for class by bringing your notebook, agenda, lab sheets, writing utensil, etc. to each class session.

 Classwork 15%

Classwork not only includes written work but also includes relevant classroom and academic expectations.

 Assessments 65%

• Quizzes 

Shorter assessments that are worth fewer points and used to check that students are keeping up with the material covered in class.  

• Tests, projects, lab report*

Longer assessments that are worth more points and used to check that students are able to connect multiple concepts covered within a unit.

* Students who earn a grade lower than a 70% may do retakes on tests, labs and projects, at the teacher's discretion.  The maximum score possible on retakes is 70%.  Retakes are designed for students who did poorly on an assignment, but have been up to date on all notes and activities in class and need a second chance.  Work will be accepted up to two weeks after the original assignment grade has been issued.
