Ms. McBride's Class

Welcome to Ms. McBride's 6th grade!

I am thrilled to be a part of our wonderful team of sixth grade teachers: Mr. Vetack, Mr. Pooler, Mrs. Miller and Ms. Tanguay. Together we will be your "tour guides" as we explore the world around us.

Here are some of the great things which we will focus on this year:

Math: Flex Grouping will begin shortly with Topic 1 on Using Positive Rational Numbers

Writing: The writing process, grammar basics, and responding to literature will be highlights of our year. Writer's notebooks as well as computers will be utilized as we explore the structure and style of successful writers.

Reading: The Reader's Workshop model will be utilized as we study various authors and genres in sixth grade. During the first trimester, we will be utilizing our workshop model, conferring, and review strategies of successful, analytical readers. Students will also be reading works from the author Gary Paulsen and sharing in class read alouds such as "My Side of the Mountain" . As active readers, we will use our comprehension strategies to deepen our understandings.

Science: I am excited to begin another year investigating the scientific method and engineering process skills! Are you ready to ask questions and investigate the world around you? For all you tinkerers out there, STEM investigations and design process will be incorporated as well!

Social Studies: We will be thinking globally in grade six - so it makes sense to begin our year with geography studies and hands-on investigations with archaeology.
