Grading Policy

Competencies/Grading:

1. Comprehension 25% : Listening, Reading, and Culture

Student listens and reads with sensitivity and discrimination.

Ø Students understand vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation necessary to engage in conversation, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions and exchange opinions.

Ø Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.

Student demonstrates an understanding of the relationship between the practices, products and perspectives of the cultures studied.

(Tests, quizzes, discussions, reading comprehension activities, and reading work such as: short stories, poetry, plays, novels, cultural information, literature selections, history selections)

2. Communication 25% : Speaking, Writing, and Culture (Informal- less preparation)

Student speaks and writes fluently, expressively and accurately

Ø Students understand vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation necessary to engage in conversation, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions and exchange opinions. Students are more spontaneous, they get their ideas across, and they are understandable.

Ø Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.

Student demonstrates an understanding of the relationship between the practices, products and perspectives of the cultures studied.

(Quizzes, journal entries, small projects, in class projects/challenges, stories, and discussions)

3- Production 40% : Speaking, Writing, and Culture (Formal-more preparation)

Student speaks and writes fluently, expressively and accurately

Ø Students understand vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation necessary to engage in conversation, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions and exchange opinions. Students are more grammatically correct, and they are looking for correct pronunciation.

Ø Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.

Student demonstrates an understanding of the relationship between the practices, products and perspectives of the cultures studied.

(Tests, projects, essays, interviews and oral presentations)

4- Responsibilities 10% : Self-management

Student is a responsible, participatory member of the class

Ø Students are active participants in the language classroom and do everything possible to prepare themselves for the lesson and to be successful in Spanish.

(Homework/class work: worksheets, and exercises in workbook or textbook. Class participation: games, use of the target language, conversations/discussions in Spanish. Class preparedness: organization, study, and bring necessary materials)

Note: An assignment can count for more than one competency
