Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer extra credit?

No, I do not offer extra credit to my students but I do give a variety of assignments that are designed to help raise students’ grades. If students are completing all of the assignments to the best of their ability, they should not need extra credit. I also allow students to redo certain assignments to improve their grades. They should see me if they would like to take advantage of this opportunity.

How can my child raise their grade?

Make sure your student does their homework every night and shows their work or thinking on every problem. They should also spend a good amount of time studying for each chapter test (See question below). Check your child’s grade regularly. Make sure that they do not have any zeroes or missing assignments. They can also redo certain assignments to help improve their overall score.

How can my child study for the tests?

The best way to study for the tests is to take the practice test on the online textbook website. To access the practice test:

1. Go to Muirlands website.

2. Click on "Academics"

3. Click on "Teacher and Support Staff Pages"

4. Click on "Emily Newman"

5. Click on "Useful links"

6. Click on the blue button that says "Looking for easy access materials?"

7. Click on the green "click here" button

8. Select "California" for your program and click "Go"

9. Select your textbook

10. Select the chapter that the test is on

11. Click on the chapter test

12. Click on the red starred chapter test.

13. Complete the test and click "check my work" when you are done.

14. Review any questions that you missed.

A new window should pop up with the practice test. Students should take the test as if they were taking a real test in class and click on “Check your work” when they are done. They should then go back and review any concepts that they have missed.

Other ways to study for the tests are reviewing their chapter homework, reviewing the sections in the textbook, reviewing what they have done in their workbooks, and watching the videos on the online textbook website.

Are you available for extra help?

I am available during lunch and/or before school on an as needed basis. Students should check with me before coming to make sure I am available.
