Welcome to the 4th & 5th grades! I look forward to an exceptional year with you and your child! I am honored to work with your child, as these are essential milestone years in their education and the final years of elementary school. This year, your child will begin exploring critical thinking more than ever through literature, mathematics, the sciences, the arts, social studies, and much more. Additionally, they will develop habits that will help them succeed in their studies and social interactions throughout their lives. The Fourth and Fifth Grades are Hard Work, but EXCITING, and you will see them start finding their voice in the world!
A little about myself:
This is my 28th year teaching for the San Diego Unified School District. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master's in Cross-Cultural Curriculum. In addition, I have my GATE Certification (Gifted And Talented Education). I initially taught the primary grades for a year, but I have taught in the third, fourth, and fifth grades since then. For the past eighteen years (or so), I have been exclusively in the fourth and fifth grades. I have taught at Garfield Elementary School since 1999, over 26 years ago. My passion for teaching is in fourth and fifth grades, and I love coming to work every day!
I have three children of my own, and all three of them attended Garfield Elementary. I understand the joys and challenges of parenthood and the importance of the home/school connection. I plan to build solid relationships and communication between home and school. To promote this, I will be available either through Class Dojo messaging (the easiest and quickest way to reach me) or by email at jmoosa@sandi.net if you have any questions or concerns.
