The school maintains a very active School Site Council (SSC), an English Language Parent Advisory Committee (ELAC), and a Parent/Teacher Group (PTG), which meet on a monthly basis. The parent officers are committed and eager to participate in making important decisions affecting school programs.

Student STAR test results for the past several years show that students have been performing below the required Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) requirements in Language Arts and Math. In the last 10 years, Los Padres has gained 163 API points, with 2 point gain during the 2012-2013 school year. In Kindergarten through third grade classrooms were staffed for 23:1 student to teacher ratio and grades four though six classrooms were reduced to 25:1 student to teacher average. Furthermore, Los Padres continues to support math instruction to further the success students have been achieving in the API and AYP under this content area. As a result, Los Padres has partnered with Hartnell College to form a strong mathematical interest in the school. Staff and parent are committed to improve the education of Los Padres students.

Los Padres continues to set high standards and to demand high expectations from all students. With the full implementation of the Common Core State Standards, Los Padres staff is confident that students will have the necessary tools to become life long learners in this rapidly changing and global society.

Solar Energy at Our Site

In 2014 Salinas City Elementary School district installed solar panels in 14 sites. This project is expected to reduce electricity costs at the district's 14 sites by 80 to 90 percent.

In addition, students will benefit from opportunities to learn about energy conservation, sustainability and clean technology while being able to see the results first hand.

The following is a link to the live feed of the solar energy generated at Los Padres. On this page you can not only see how much has been generated to date, but also how many light bulbs this equals, how much CO2 has been offset, and more.
