Computer Cluster Consultant (Cluscon)
Positions: Approximately 20
Hourly Rate: $9.00 (for 2023/2024 academic year)
Hours per Week: Between 5-12 hours, depending on the student's schedule
Schedule: Hours are set at the beginning of each semester and last through finals week
Supervisor: Director of Technical Support Services (Kathleen A. Hausmann)
Description: The Cluster Consultant is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operation of the Trumper Computer Cluster (located in the lower level of the library). The consultant on duty:
Ensures that student, faculty, and staff comply with the Responsible Use of College Computers and the Internet @ Saint Mary's College
Is responsible for working scheduled shifts in the Trumper Computer Cluster, assisting students, faculty, and staff who have questions during that time
Enables student, faculty, and staff access to functioning computers, software, and printers in the Clusters
Directs students, faculty, and staff to appropriate Information Technology resources that are available to assist them (such as the Clusters website and FAQ, training sessions offered by the Information Technology department, and the Huisking Instructional Technology Resource Center)
Helps users with software by answering questions and solving problems
Administers the printers and the print queues as necessary
Performs routine hardware and software troubleshooting and reports non-routine problems to the Cluster Manager and/or Director of Technical Support Services
Maintains the general cleanliness and neatness of the computer facilities
Participates on the Cluscons listserv
Completes other duties as needed.
Qualifications: The cluster consultant represents the Department of Information Technology to cluster users, and as such this position carries with it a degree of professional responsibility. The ideal candidate will have:
basic familiarity with both Macintosh and Windows operating environments, and above average experience with at least one
a capacity to think logically and apply techniques from general troubleshooting methods to specific situations faced by users
an ability to work both independantly and as a part of a team
an approachable and helpful personality with a desire to assist others
Training: Will be provided. Attendance at training is required.
