- Pages 112-113 Words to Know- Please read each Context Card with your child. Have your child verbally use each word in a sentence.
- Pages 114- 115 Background and Comprehension- Read about writing a book on pg. 114. Read about drawing conclusions on pg. 115.
- Read the biography, “Tomas Rivera” on pgs. 116-130
§ Before reading, tell your child that this is a biography. It is about the life of Tomas Rivera. One clue that we’ve talked about that helps us decide if a story is fiction or nonfiction is the pictures. Usually, fiction stories have drawings and non fiction stories have real photographs. This story has drawings because the author may not have real photographs of Tomas Rivera, and decided to draw pictures instead.
§ Questions to ask for comprehension- What was Tomas Rivera’s job when he was a boy? What are crops? (use the pictures to help with this question) What did Tomas Rivera do after he was done picking crops? Where did Tomas Rivera’s grandpa take him? Why do you think that reading stories can help someone make their own stories? What were some of the stories about that Tomas read? What job did Tomas have when he grew up? What does Tomas Rivera write about? Where can you find Tomas Rivera’s name? What or who made Tomas Rivera decide to write stories?

Hi, everyone!
I am praying that all of you are staying safe and healthy. I am looking forward to more Zoom meetings with you. The links for the meetings will be sent by e-mail the day prior. As much as I would love to see all of my friends, I know that everyone has different schedules and many of you are working from home, so I understand that it may not be possible for your child to have access to a device at a certain time. While I will be teaching lessons through Zoom, if your child is having difficulty with any of the work that is assigned, I would be happy to set up an individual meeting with your child at the time that is most convenient for you. I want to help the best that I can, so please contact me by e-mail if you would like me to set up a private video conference. This is no trouble at all!

Online Comphrension Test on Google Form
Please remember that any test that I assign on Google Form will not be graded based on your child's actual score. Each child will receive full credit, as long as it was completed. While I do look at each child's score, I use this information to see how your child is doing with the skills and content that have been assigned.
I appreciate all of you for working with your children while they are not in school. I know that this is a difficult time for everyone. If at any time your child is feeling overwhelmed, please contact me! We are all in this together!

I sent home a letter last week about the Christmas Show. In the letter, I explained that the children will need costumes for our show and that we are asking our parents to contribute $2 for their child's costume this year. The due date to bring in $2 is Tuesday, November 26th. Again, thank you so much for your contribution!
