During 2015-2016, Kirsten took a sabbatical from Sagax and served as Deputy Director of the Delaware Economic Development Office.
Prior to creating Sagax Associates, Kirsten served as the lead economic recovery coordinator for federal, state and local inter-governmental planning immediately following Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey through a mission assignment with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Kirsten was then appointed to serve as a Senior Business and Economic Policy Advisor to President Obama’s Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force. The Task Force developed strategic measures to ensure families, small businesses and communities are stronger, more economically competitive and better able to withstand future storms.
Leading up to her work with Hurricane Sandy economic recovery, Kirsten was an Economic Development Specialist for the US Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) serving New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. She supported communities, states, and universities as an economic development subject matter expert and grants management advisor. Prior to working for the federal government, Kirsten was a private planning and economic development consultant based in Philadelphia. As a consultant, Kirsten provided research-based consultative services to universities, medical centers, transit authorities, government agencies, developers, and communities across the United States to determine best practices, comprehensive plans, and collaborative strategies.
Kirsten is currently a member of the Board of the Delaware Forum of Executive Women and serves as the Chair of the Marketing and Communications Committee. She is also a member of the Board of the Delaware Fund for Women and serves as the Chair of the Grants Committee.
Kirsten served as the Innovation for Job Creation Committee Chair and a Member of the Board of Directors of Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County. (served 2013-2017) Governor Markell appointed Kirsten to both the Delaware Governor’s Advisory Board for Exceptional Citizens and the Delaware State Board of Speech Pathologists, Audiologists, and Hearing Aid Dispensers (served 2014-2017).
Kirsten graduated from Franklin & Marshall College (Lancaster, PA) and earned a Masters of City and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA). She is certified in Commercial Real Estate Development by the Urban Land Institute and she studied comparative politics and policy at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
