Athlete & Coach COVID-19 Daily Screening Tool
Greetings From The MSAD #27 Athletics Office,
This letter is to provide families of district 7th and 8th grade fall student-athletes with details and updates for return-to-play. The plan follows guidance from the Maine Governor's Office, Maine Center for Disease Control, Maine Department of Education, Maine School Management Association and the Maine Principals' Association.
MSAD#27 has resumed interscholastic athletics this fall for grades 7-12. District 27 VRMS Sponsored fall sports (Cross Country Running & Soccer) will begin until this coming week (Sept 21 - 26). Return-2-Play for CHS sports began this summer and will continue through a modified fall season.
Practices for VRMS Cross Country and Soccer will begin on Tuesday September 22nd. Boys Soccer practice will be from 3-4:30pm at FKCHS, Girls Soccer practice will be from 3:30-5pm on the Fort Kent Elementary School field and Cross Country will practice at CHS at a time to be announced ASAP. Practices will run each week day during harvest starting Tues. Sept. 22nd unless there is a game or race.
Team coaches will determine which athletes attend games or races during harvest based on conditioning levels as well as the large numbers signed up in boys and girls soccer. Full schedules can be found on the athletics home page (https://sites.google.com/a/sad27.org/sad27-athletics/schedules).
All MSAD 27 student-athletes must have an updated Sports Physical and Baseline Impact Concussion test within the last two years. Sign-ups for VRMS Boys & Girls Cross Country Running and Soccer were conducted last week and all these names are being checked by our school nurse for updated records. If your child did not sign-up for cross country or soccer and would like to participate this fall please email district Athletic Director Eric Werntgen at ericwerntgen@sad27.org with your child’s full name, grade and sport of interest.
Prior to participation in practice, all MSAD 27 student-athletes must also review the MSAD27 Athletics Assumption of the Risk and Waiver of Liability Relating to Coronavirus with a parent or guardian and return the signed copy to their coach. In addition, the MSAD 27 student-athletes must complete the Athlete & Coach COVID-19 Daily Screening Tool when school is not in session (i.e. Harvest Break, Saturdays, etc..).
All of these important documents and links are available below in pdf. format. Please read through these carefully.
General Guideline Highlights (view full document School Sports Guidance: Return to Competition for Competitive Athletics and Activities in Maine)
Participants must arrive onsite wearing masks.
All individuals must wear a face covering when physical distancing is difficult to maintain, per CDC recommendations and pertinent Executive Orders from the Office of the Governor.
Face coverings are not currently recommended for players during active practice or competition, although athletes may wear face coverings during vigorous activity if they chose to do so.
Face coverings must be used when not engaged in vigorous activity (e.g. during low to moderate intensity exercise, during coaching strategy sessions, in bench area).
Unless the governing body for your sport has a specific recommendation regarding plastic face shields, do not wear them in place of a face covering given potential safety risks.
Face coverings must be worn by coaches, staff, officials, and spectators.
To facilitate the use of a face covering, coaches and officials must use an artificial noisemaker such as an air horn in place of a whistle or keep the whistle inside the face covering.
Participants must bring water. Sharing of water will not be allowed;
Participants must arrive dressed to participate. Access into the buildings including locker rooms will not be available with the exception of designated bathrooms;
Student-Athletes need to fill out the COVID-19 Daily Screening Tool which is located on the sad.27.org COVID-19 Return-2-Play website and will also be available prior to training on-site from their respective Coach. District 27 Coaches will be doing a similar daily screening prior to leading their respective training sessions. If they come down with any symptoms, the session will be cancelled or an alternate certified district employee will lead it.
Please make sure to ask yourself and family members the following screening questions prior to participating and stay home if you answer "Yes" to any of these questions:
1. Do I feel unwell today?
2. Do I have a new cough or sore throat?
3. Do I have a fever (100.4) or chills?
4. Do I have new shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
5. Do I have a new loss of taste or smell?
6. Am I fatigued?
7. Do I have new muscle or body aches?
8. Do I have a headache?
9. Do I have congestion or a runny nose?
10. Am I nauseated or vomiting?
11. Do I have diarrhea?
12. Have I been around anyone exhibiting these symptoms?
13. Am I living with anyone who is sick or quarantined?
If you need a hard copy of any documents please stop by the CHS/VRMS Main Office between the hours of 8am and 3pm on Monday September 21st. Please contact the SAD#27 Main Office with any further questions or concerns at 834-5540 or email Athletic Director Eric Werntgen at ericwerntgen@sad27.org.
