Concert band is a course for students who play traditional band instruments. The musicians study, rehearse and perform a variety of musical styles. Musicians are expected to practice individually, attend sectional rehearsals, and perform at concerts and civic events to fulfill their requirements for the course. Students in Concert Band study and perform the music of an intermediate level (Grades II and III) with emphasis on developing technical ability, knowledge of phrasing, tone, balance, rhythmic accuracy, and interpretation.
Additional independent study options, including district and state/national festival participation, are also available for course credit. Attendance at all performances is a requirement in order to receive credit for the course.
PREREQUISITE: Middle School Band or with director's permission.
Students must also provide black pants (skirt) and a black shirt (blouse).
Please remember if you miss Concert Band for any reason other than illness, your class participation grade will drop.
You have the opportunity to write a paper about your instrument or a musician or a genre to bring your grade back up.
