Guiding Principles of Mrs. Hayes's Class

Time is precious. Once it is gone, you can never get it back.

Every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

Learning and knowledge are more valuable than gold.

Honesty is the highest virtue.

Responsibility is a sign of maturity and competence.

Kindness improves relationships.

Perseverance means you keep trying even when things are difficult.

Trying new things in spite of fear makes us grow.

Find joy in whatever life brings you.

1. Be ready to work when the bell rings.

2. Treat students, teachers, and classroom materials with respect.

3. SLANT:

  • Sit up.
  • Look at the person speaking.
  • Ask questions.
  • No distractions!
  • Take notes.

4. Do your OWN work.

A principle is an idea, not a command. A principle does not tell you what to do.

A principle shows you how to think about what to do.

The guiding principles used in Mrs. Hayes's class are designed to make sure that everyone can learn and feel safe.

A rule based on sound principles usually makes sense and seems reasonable to follow.

A rule is a command that you are supposed to obey. It usually comes from an external source or authority outside of yourself.

Most people find rules uncomfortable or restricting.

Sometimes rules are arbitrary and don't make sense.
