Mrs. Allison Sozansky

A 1997 graduate of the University of Houston’s Moore School of Music, Allison Sozansky began her teaching career as an elementary strings specialist in Pasadena ISD. The following year, she joined the late Leigh Ledford at Beverly Hills Intermediate School for a period of three years. Then, in 2001, Mrs. Sozansky and her husband, Phillip, relocated to Round Rock, where she became the orchestra director at Hopewell Middle School. Under her direction, Hopewell’s orchestra program flourished, consistently earning superior ratings at UIL contest as well as having strong participation in both Region Orchestra and Solo and Ensemble contest. Moreover, in 2008, Mrs. Sozansky became the very first orchestra director in Round Rock ISD to develop a mariachi program for her students. Since then, Hopewell’s mariachi program has become a model for other campuses in the district and a source of pride for the school and community alike. She graduated from Hopewell in 2016 and joined the Stony Point HS Fine Arts team. Stony Point has had two record breaking years under her leadership, earning straight ones with every UIL contest.

Before children, Mrs. Sozansky enjoyed giving private violin lessons and performing with the Pasadena Philharmonic and Temple Symphonies. More recently, she has revisited her love of Texas-style fiddle playing by taking lessons with Jimmie Don Bates, participating in local fiddle contests, and joining the Western Swing band, “Moontower.“ With the assistance of a scholarship from the Texas Music Adjudicator’s Association, Mrs. Sozansky attended Mark O’Connor’s fiddle camp in New York City in 2009, becoming certified in the first of the famed musician’s fiddle method books. A member of both TODA and TMAA, she regularly serves as an adjudicator for UIL orchestra contests across the state. Mrs. Sozansky has also conducted region orchestras around the state, including San Antonio, Austin, Waco and South Houston. She was honored with an induction in Mu Omicron in 2015, an honorary fraternity of Texas orchestra directors. When not teaching or performing, Mrs. Sozansky enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, and playing football with her husband, their two boys, Alexander and David, and German Shepherd/Greyhound Jo.
