Class Policies

Grading Categories:

Formative: 60% of overall grade

Examples: classwork, quizzes, homework

Summative: 40% of overall grade

Examples: tests, full essays, short answers (paragraph responses to literature), projects.

Preparation: 0% of overall grade

This category serves as information regarding the preparation level of the student for class. Examples include coming to class with supplies, student's book of choice, homework assigned as prep for class, etc. They will be entered as a 0: no expectations met, 1: some expectations met, or 2: all expectations met.

Late Work:

In order for late and/or missing work to be reflected in the current marking period, it must be turned in 5 days before the end of the marking period. Otherwise, work will be accepted when it is turned in.

If an assignment is not turned in on time, five points from the overall possible score will be deleted EACH CALENDAR DAY until the assignment is turned in. (Ex: Student turns in an assignment two days past due; ten points are deducted. Student scores an 83 on the assignment. The grade will be entered as a 73 in the grade book.)

How to make up failing grades or missing work due to an absence:

  1. If bringing up you grade, review the assessments that have been returned to you. Review the grades and comments on these assessments.
  2. If you feel you understand the material better, you can locate the make-up assignment on the "Make-up Assignments" google classroom, complete it, and turn it in. Be sure to email Mrs. Morgan if you do so. If you were absent for an assignment, go to the "Make-up Assignments" google classroom to see if you are able to do an assignment and turn it in or if you need to make plans to go to tutorials.
  3. If you feel you still do not understand the material, make plans to go to a tutorial session. I'm available Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30 - 8:55 am. If none of these times are possible for you, email or talk to me asap.
