Teaching is my passion. Elementary students have an enthusiasm for learning that is thrilling to witness. I am excited to explore the world with our students by encouraging and engaging their individual passions and helping each student develop a lifelong love for learning. Through support and encouragement, students will be nurtured and grow as learners.
This will be my twelfth year teaching at Caraway. I taught kindergarten for 4 years, and third grade for 7 years. I taught for two years in Georgetown, before making my transition to our wonderful school. I was born and raised in Austin, making me a rare, true Austinite. I received an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Texas State University, and I received my masters from Texas A&M in Educational Psychology. I love learning, and will frequently take classes, or read, to expand my knowledge base. I am the proud mother of three wonderful girls, Charly - a SENIOR this year at Westwood High School, Kenna - my creative middle child, who is a 2nd Grade Owl this year, and my sweet youngest, Rebecca - who is taking part in our brand new PreK 4 program. My wonderful husband, Shane, also has ties to our school, having attended Caraway when it was North Oaks Elementary. He proudly tells me that he knew the REAL Kathy Caraway, the first principal of our school. Our classroom was even his kindergarten room!
I am thrilled to be working with quite a diverse group of students through our Talented and Gifted program, and Dyslexia program. I cannot wait to get to know the students and your families this year!
