Hi! My name is Carolyn Scalan. I am excited to begin my 10th year as an art teacher in Round Rock ISD teaching art! I love our Gattis family as I teach entire families. I get excited when I get a younger sibling!
This will be my 5th class of kindergarteners to promote from 5th grade this year. I consider all my students my children as I watch them grow from Pre-K through 5th grade, and I love it when they come back to visit after they've moved on to middle and high school. We are one family!
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education from Louisiana Tech University. I have a Master's of Education in Education Technology from Texas State. My teaching certifications include All Level Art EC-12, EC-6 Generalist, and ESL.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved working with children! I chose to be an art teacher because it combines my love for working with children and my love for art. I am passionate about helping my students reach their fullest potential in the art room. I love seeing their excitement in their creations!
A Little Bit More About Me....
I have been married to my husband for 22 years. We have a 20-year-old son who is currently attending Austin Community College this year to get his basic courses completed. He wants to be a history teacher, and eventually transfer to Texas A&M to finish his degree. We also have an 19 year old beagle Emmy and two 2 year old Beagle puppies (sisters) named Eevee and Ellee.
Though my son is still at home, I still feel the empty nest syndrome as I have no more swim meets to attend or any of his other extra-curricular activities. I spend my time now giving my all to my elementary art students, spending time with my family and dogs, and creating art. I also started teaching art classes during the summer in my home studio because I missed teaching and the social aspect! I serve in various leadership roles in the art education world.
Some favorite things I love to do are read, create art, spend time with my family and friends, and I love the beach and the mountains! My son swam for 9 years and I enjoyed watching him swim and compete on his high school team and his summer league team.
