Welcome to Mrs. Rice’s Statistics and AQR Classes
Dear Parents,
Thank you for sharing your student with me this year. I know that your student is likely a junior or a senior and as such should be totally self-sufficient. However, based on my own kids, I figured it can’t hurt to let you know a few things about the class before we get started.
First, neither AQR nor grade level statistics are meant to be a difficult classes, but they are still math classes and there will still be assignments to do, tests to take, and projects to complete. These are not good classes in which to contract senioritis. I do keep my grades up to date on home access, so you can always see how your student is doing. And please contact me if you have questions. The easiest way to do that is by email at janet_rice@roundrockisd.org.
I will try to keep my school website up to date. The syllabus will be posted there. Most of the information for the class is on Elearn, however, which is accessible to your student on any internet connected device – including their cell phone
Both class are run as Elearn classes, RRISD’s online learning management system. The course content and assignments are on Elearn and are reachable from any internet connected computer, so your student can access lecture notes and assignments from home – or from their smartphone for that matter. Unfortunately there is not a provision for “guest access” for non-students, but if you go to elearn.roundrockisd.org (no www.) your student can sign in and show you around the course.
Thank you again for sharing your student with me. We’re going to have a good year and at its end you’ll have a young person who understands political polls, clinical trials and the use – and misuse – of statistics in our society (for either class) and for those of you with students in AQR, you’ll have someone who has a better understanding of the uses of mathematics in various aspects of the world.
