The 2022-23 school year marks my 23rd year of teaching and my 21st year of teaching at McNeil High School! However, in addition to my many years as a teacher here, I also spent all 4 of my years as a high school student and a year of observation and student teaching at McNeil. This is a very good place to be!
Prior to my return to McNeil, I taught Spanish at the middle school level for 2 years. During my first 10 years here, I taught all levels of Spanish except for the AP courses. As I began to work with more English language learners in my Spanish classes, I became interested in teaching ESL and decided to attend courses to help me pursue my certification. Soon, I became certified to teach ESL and English. A year later, I had the opportunity to become the lead ESL teacher, and I now work as the program coordinator on campus.
On a personal level, I have been married to my husband Matt (also a McNeil graduate) for 21 years, and we have 2 amazing sons -- Chase, who is starting his freshman year in college after graduating from McNeil last year, and Hayden, who is a fourth grader in our district.
I am thrilled that our Flex period will continue this year. All students have the opportunity to come in for tutorials and extra support during the Flex period. I am also available for tutorials before or after school by appointment. My office is B109 (inside the B108 workroom), and I will be "floating" into other classrooms during the periods in which I teach. I will communicate with students the best places to find me once my schedule is more settled.
I am looking forward to working with all of our new and returning ELs (English Learners) and their parents this year. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
