E.B.F.H.S Marching Band Wins Championships!!
On Saturday, Oct. 19th, the Eddyville-Blakesburg High School Marching Band placed 1st in class 2A at the Mid-Iowa Marching Band Championships in Ankeny for the 17th time in 19 years. EBF’s score of 65.1 was 12 points ahead of the nearest competitor. The band was also presented with the Outstanding Color Guard Trophy. The EBF Color Guard outscored 10 other color guards including Waterloo West and Sioux Falls, South Dakota! Earlier in the day, the E.B.F.H.S. Marching Band competed at the State Marching Band Contest in Pella where they earned their 28th consecutive Division I rating with a score of 77.5.
The E.B.F.H.S. Band had an excellent season this year placing 1st in class 2A competition at five different contests. The band outscored over 35 other bands in all classes during the season.
On Saturday September 28th, the band had a great day in Cedar Rapids and Pella as they outscored a total of 18 other bands in two marching band competitions. In the morning, the band competed at the Linn-Mar Marching Band Contest and placed 2nd in class 2A with a score of 67.1 behind the band from Hillcrest Christian High School from Mississippi. The band placed 1st that evening at the Marching Dutch Invitational with a score of 71.5.
On October 5th, the Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont High School Marching Band placed 1st in overall competition with a score of 79.9 at the Davis County Marching Band Contest in Bloomfield. In addition to placing first, the band also received the 2A Outstanding Drumline, Color Guard, and Drum Major trophies. The band also won the Overall Outstanding Drum Major and Drumline Awards. The Color Guard was 2 points away from the overall title. The E.B.F.H.S. Band outscored twelve other bands including: Cardinal, Pekin, Central Lee, Highland, Wapello, Clark County, Missouri, Ft. Madison, Fairfield, Knoxville, Davis County, Washington, and Ottumwa.
On October 12th, The Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont Marching Band had a very exciting day Saturday as the band placed 1st in the Valleyfest and Showdown Competitions in West Des Moines. EBF won the Valleyfest 2A competition with a score of 63.0, 11 points ahead of the nearest competitor. Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont also won the Outstanding Marching and Maneuvering, Hornline, Drumline, Color Guard, and Soloist of the Day Awards. Riley Arnold and Gage DeLaCruz were chosen as the Outstanding Soloists in class 2A. EBF outscored 9 bands at the Valleyfest contest including Tri Center, Harlan, Adel Desoto, North Polk, Knoxville, Bondurant Farrar, Dallas Center-Grimes, Des Moines East and Des Moines Roosevelt,. The judges selected Andrew Hart as the best marcher in the band.
In the evening contest, the “Showdown” of bands, the E.B.F.H.S. Marching Band placed 1st in class C with a score of 51.8. This is the 19th consecutive year that the band has placed 1st at the “Showdown” Contest. The band also won the Outstanding Drumline, Marching, Hornline, and Drum Major trophies.
The E.B.F.H.S. Band has 69 members this year. The band is directed by Joe Overton, assistant director Dezirae Russell, and color guard instructor Paige Langstraat. The field commanders are Courtney Durst and Emma Haselhuhn. Drumline Section leader is Emma Bell. The soloists for this year’s show are Hope Starr, Gage DeLaCruz, Riley Arnold, Jessica Jones, and Andria VerSchuure.
Director Joe Overton had these comments on the season: This has been a great season for the EBF Marching Band! We managed to improve our performances every week and we worked very hard all fall. The last contest at Ankeny was the best performance of the season. I am so proud of everyone involved with our program!
