But, what will we DO in Spanish 4/5

Spanish 4 and 5 is an upper level language course offered to primarily juniors and seniors who have successfully completed through Spanish 3. An intermediate-low level of proficiency is assumed and language skills will be cultivated and built upon over the course of the semester. One year, the course focuses on Latin American countries. The next year, the topic will be centered on Spain.

You can expect that 95% of the course will be conducted in Spanish. Don't worry though! I find that the first week or so, students are acclimating their ears to the language and after that, it's really not too tough!

This is an interest led and a project based class. You can expect that your interests, as well as those of your classmates, will influence what and how we study. Many students at this level prefer to research and present projects, in groups or in pairs, over taking exams and so, that is typically how students are assessed.

In this class you can expect to study the history, art, religion, food, music, current events of either Latin American countries or of Spain. You can also expect to read at least one novel that is historical fiction.

If you enjoy Spanish and/or have an interest in traveling to a Spanish-speaking country- or even if you want 4 years of language on your college resume, you should consider taking Spanish 4/5.
