“Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things,
but learning another way to think about things.”

I began learning Spanish in high school, when I was 14 years old. I spent the summer before my senior year as an exchange student in Costa Rica (¡Pura vida!) and by the time I returned home, I knew that I wanted to teach high school Spanish.
I attended Western Oregon University, where I obtained both my bachelor's and master's degrees, and I began my teaching career in Mill City, Oregon. I taught Spanish at various schools in Oregon from 1992 through 2009, and I joined the staff at Ridgefield High School in 2009.
I love the Spanish language and the different cultures of the various Spanish-speaking countries. Other things I love are spending time with my family and my Australian shepherd Sully, running with my dog, baking, and traveling-- especially to Spanish-speaking countries.
The 2025-26 school year is my 34th year of teaching Spanish, and my 17th year at RHS.
