Retro Game Night!
Second Friday of each month, 5:00PM - 7:00PM
Rhode Island Computer Museum’s (RICM) is hosting A Retro Game Night, the second Friday of each Month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Adults who grew up during the golden age of video games should be prepared to take a trip down memory lane. We're dusting off the consoles of yore, including Atari, Intellivision, SNES, Sega Genesis, Playstation, Colecovision, N64 and more!
You can also feel free to bring any systems and games you want to play - provided it's old retro. We will provide the Popcorn and refreshments while you have fun discussing, reminiscing and (of course) playing these great games/systems. BONUS: Interested in present/future gaming? Come check out our immersive VR demos in the lab as well!

Hello and Welcome to the Learning Lab!
At the Rhode Island Computer Museum Learning Lab, you can "Conceive, Code, and Create" a lot of cool stuff. In our workshops, you'll make a robot come to life, design a video game, rock out by creating beat boxes and synthesizers, and edit your own YouTube video. While you're here, you can explore some amazing ancient "techosaurs" (interesting old machines), and learn how computers work.

Bring your ideas, questions, and curiosity, and get ready to roll up your sleeves and create. You'll leave the Lab ready to amaze your friends and family with your new skills.
The Learning Lab is located at The Meadows Professional Office Park, 1130 Ten Road, North Kingstown, Rhode Island. You'll find us in Suite C103, the last building on the lower lot. Learn to Solder! - 6:30PM-8:00PM
Join us at the Learning Lab Workshop to learn beginning soldering skills. Participants will receive all the materials and be provided the tools needed to create a project from start to finish. If you’ve ever been interested or curious about soldering, this is the workshop for you! Learn to make cool things with easy to learn hands-on soldering.
What will you learn?
• Learn to solder a basic kit
• Soldering Safety
• Take home a completed soldered project

Karaoke Coding! Rock On!
In this workshop, we use portable microphones and free coding software to inspire a new generation of programmers and sound engineers. Kids are introduced to coding concepts and basic sound design using simple programs to record and modify their voices and design a beat box.
The easy-to-use drag-and-drop block codes let kids create interactive animations and sounds. By the end of the session, kids know how to make their very own beat box!
(This is a 1½ hour session, age 11 and above)

The Rhode Island Computer Museum will present a Workshop called “Make Your Own Video Game.” This is a great chance to put down your controllers, take time to learn an interactive software titled "Scratch,” and create your own video game. Presented by our learning team, the program will also include an exhibit on “Historic Video Games” that explains the design and impact of Early Video Games.
The MIT-developed youth program “Scratch” is a very user-friendly computer program that helps kids learn software coding and create their own sample video game. By the end of this workshop, kids will have hand-on practice with Scratch, new skills to develop their own games, and a better understanding of how early video games were made.
YouTube Video Editing Workshop!

One, two, three...Action! The Rhode Island Computer Museum will present a “RICM YouTube Video Editing Workshop.” This is a great chance to learn some free software entitled “VSDC” and create your own sample video. Presented by our learning team, the program will also include a discussion of "Historic Computers" to help participants develop a theme for their videos. So get the free software, grab some footage (by filming something or downloading something from the net), and let's start editing. This workshop aims to explain how to do video editing and give students new skills to develop their own videos. The workshop is part of ongoing outreach by the Rhode Island Computer Museum and is supported by a Rhode Island Council for the Humanities grant.
Introduction to Raspberry Pi Basics

This workshop is for anyone that wants to learn about the Raspberry Pi. The Raspberry Pi® is a single-board computer developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation with the intention of stimulating the teaching of basic computer science in schools. The Raspberry Pi computer is a miniature ARM (phone) based PC which can do many of the things a desktop PC can do like word-processing, games or playing back High-Definition video. We will put together basic component electrical circuits; learn about input and output, basic python programming concepts and practices. The concepts covered in workshop are using a breadboard, Sonic Pi, programming environment basics.
Atari Games!

Geek out at Rhode Island Computer Museum’s Learning Lab! We will discuss the Atari computer and take apart some retro machines. During the workshop, you'll roll up your sleeves, dive into exploring the hidden world under the top of a machine, and have a great time. Until you can join us, take a look at an online exhibit of our Video Game Collection and enjoy learning about some classic games!
