Kielder Campsite has undergone major investment recently with better drainage, refurbished toilet block, dark sky friendly external lights and new hard standings. There is also wi-fi and a marvellous warm room (pictured) open around the clock with red lighting. Just five minutes walk away is the Angler's Arms pub serving food. Kielder has no food stores, but there is a community run self service petrol station. For more http://kieldercampsite.co.uk/ Eating options further afield include The Pheasant (Stannersburn) and Blackcock (20 mins by car, near the Dam). Over the border in Newcastleton there are a couple of nice cafes, including a personal favourite, The Olive Tree.
Kielder Water & Forest Park covers 230 square miles. It produces five per cent of all the UK's domestically grown timber and is home to England's biggest colony of red squirrels. There are lots of excellent biking and walking trails. It is a unique landscape with spectacular wildlife including ospreys, goshawks, pine martens and feral goats. This is Border Country - a land of far horizons!
