Forklift Fleet Management

Forklift Fleet Management

FMX, South Africa’s leading forklift fleet management solution, monitors forklift operations and driver behaviour. The unit logs and transmits any predefined information to a server, where it can be viewed in report form or sent via e-mail or SMS. FMX is designed and manufactured under one roof which allows for customised features and implementation - critical in an ever-changing environment. Standard FMX features include:

    • Driver identification

    • Immobilisation

    • Impact sensor

    • Oil pressure monitoring

    • Water temperature monitoring

    • Gear control

    • Run hour monitoring

    • Production hour monitoring

The reporting structure is unique in that reports may be added, deleted or customised without having to upgrade your software.

Why FMX?

FMX is flexible - 100% South African, FMX is developed for Southern African conditions. FMX is developed and manufactured by the same group, with the software and hardware engineers operating under one roof. This means that the system can be customised to suit your needs.

Client-specific reports - FMX reports can be remotely upgraded or changed to suit your operation.

Authentic forklift management system - FMX has been developed specifically for forklift and materials handling equipment. Your operation does not have to change in order to accommodate the fleet management system limitations; the system is designed to fit into a forklift operating environment.

How Can FMX Save You Money?

FMX is a forklift fleet management system that really gives you a return on investment. It is a system that not only saves you money but can also increase your operating efficiency, therefore making you money.

1. Fuel savings - FMX offers comprehensive forklift management with regards to:

    • Unauthorised trips

    • Production and non production hours

    • Machine utilisation

    • Speed and rev monitoring

This leads to a massive reduction in fuel usage. It has been proven that if a fleet management system is used correctly, a saving of up 30% may be attained on fuel alone.

2. Reduced maintenance costs - FMX monitors impacts, oil pressure, water temperature and improper gear changing. Not only does it monitor improper gear changing, but FMX can also limit and control improper gear changing. Effective corrective measures and driver training can significantly reduce costs on:

  • Tyre wear - gear control doesn’t allow the wheels to spin.

  • Transmission damage - gear control doesn’t allow crash changing.

  • Engine replacements or repairs - a quick response on an oil pressure or water temperature problem may save an engine.

  • Engine efficiency - monitoring revs and speed ensures the engine is operated within an optimum range.

  • Claims losses and driver negligence - being able to monitor impacts will improve cases with regards to claims and can be used to rectify driver behavior.

3. Improved efficiency

FMX performs a number of tasks to improve the efficiency of your operation:

  • Machine licence and service scheduling

  • Driver licence scheduling

  • Time sheets or production hour reports

  • Optimising fleet allocations and fleet split

4. Improved safety and security

FMX comes standard with a driver ID system. This means that only drivers with the correct key tag may

drive a particular machine. An over-the-air immobilization function also helps to protect a machine.

The cost of running a fleet of forklifts includes the capital, maintenance, tyre, fuel, labour and accidental

damage costs. Therefore if you want to optimise fleet productivity, productive fleet lifespan and

driver behavior, FMX is the only tool to drive efficiency and save money.

How does FMX work?

Hardware

  • Run hours: accurately measured within specific forklift parameters, i.e. run hours may be only "hoist motor" run hours and not "ignition on" time etc.

  • Production hours: measured via load being carried and can exclude idle mode.

  • Impact sensor: has three sensitivity settings. The unit can be immobilised on the critical level.

  • Immobilisation: can be handled in a number of ways, i.e. after immobilisation...

    • when ignition is turned off, the driver cannot start again.

    • the vehicle will semi stall at intervals, then cut out at a pre-determined time

    • the machine will be starved of fuel till it eventually stalls.

  • Remote override: if an operator has lost a tag and cannot start the forklift, the driver identification system may be remotely overridden so operation can commence. The unit will still log events as usual. We also have an override alert when tampering occurs.

  • Transmission protection: improper gear selection monitoring and control (i.e. when moving or high revs)

  • Oil pressure: low oil pressure is detected and the machine may be immobilised on an event.

  • Over water temperature: detected with three settings, i.e. OK, high and critical.

  • Driver ID and access control: done via a Dallas tag system.

  • Over speed: FMX picks up actual speed from the forklift. If there is no speed sensor then one can be installed

  • Over rev: Revs are picked up off the machine itself.

  • Excess idle: detected via the revs and speed sensor. Machine can be immobilised or switched off on excess idle.

  • Starter motor protection: over crank is detected on gas and diesel machines when there is no fuel or gas. The driver cranks excessively, trying to start the machine and therefore damaging the starter motor. FMX reports on this or cuts the machine off to prevent further events.

  • Seat vacant: FMX measures how long the driver does not sit on the forklift whilst it is running. Standard on some machines; others need a sensor fitted.

  • Fuel level: may be picked up off the fuel sender of the machine. Fill ups and siphoning events can be detected.

  • Low gas: an extra sensor may be added in order to detect low gas pressure.

  • Over load: will warn the driver and send a warning to the server. The machine may also be immobilised on this event, when the machine specified overload is reached.

  • Excess load: FMX also has a setting to detect a specified load limit to which the customer wants the forklift to adhere, e.g. on a 1.8 ton machine they may only want the machine to carry 1.6 tons.

  • Machine battery monitoring: The machine battery voltage is monitored and alerts will be sent on low battery on IC's and electrics. Can indicate opportunity charging.

  • Battery tray open: Indicates when battery tray has been opened to check charge/presence.

  • Bonnet open: A bonnet switch is also installed. This is monitored in order to see if daily checks are done.

  • Km travelled per trip: kilometers are calculated from the actual speed vs. time from the forklift, and not a GPS.

  • Low brake fluid: only applicable for machines that have an output for brake fluid warnings, i.e. some tow tractors.

  • Anti- noise PCB: FMX has a four-layered gold-plated PCB to combat electronic noise, specifically from older gas machines.

  • Water-resistant aluminium extrusion: forklifts operate in a very different environment to vehicles therefore standard housing or extrusions are not advisable.

  • Hardware protection: FMX hardware is protected from voltage surges and may be fitted into numerous machines.

  • Over-the-air upgrades: FMX firmware is remotely upgraded via the GSM networks; we do not have to have access to the machine to upgrade the firmware or change settings on the unit.

Software

    • Warnings: you can specify if you would like immediate notification, by way of SMS message or e-mail, of any exception that occurs with the machine.

    • Billing: various billing reports are available to bill clients if you are in the rental market.

    • Tyre monitoring: FMX offers a capture field for when a tyre was fitted, as well as type, size, technician etc

    • Load test scheduler: captured on the software, it warns when a load test is next due.

    • Driver licence scheduler: captured on the software and warns when a licence renewal is next due.

    • Technician service: technician services can be logged on the machine via different types of service tags. Not reliant on inputting it in on the software, but you can have both options.

    • Free software for multiple users: FMX software is licence free and can be loaded on as many PC's as you require. A web version is also available.

    • Customisation of reports: This is one of FMX's strengths. The reports can be customised to suit your needs and may be done so remotely. Reports are not reliant on the software package, therefore the software does not have to be upgraded to get new reports etc. But FMX does not stop there - Driver of the Month certificates and reports can be used in lieu of KPA's.

    • Free software upgrades: FMX software upgrades are free.
