About Me

My name is Jennifer Diemert and I am the S.T.E.M teacher here at Van Hoosen Middle School! I am very excited to be teaching classes that encourage problem solving and critical thinking skills though project based learning and hands on activities. This will be my fourth year teaching at Van Hoosen and I am a (somewhat) recent graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Science Education. This past winter I began my Master's Degree through MSU studying Educational Technology, I will be graduating this December! During my time at MSU I worked with the College of Education Research Department on a project called GET City (Green Energy Technology in the City). GET City provides a series of after schools and summer engineering design experiences for youth in the Lansing area, ultimately researching the long term benefits of STEM education. Last summer I worked with the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Oakland University, with a team of mechanical engineers on a research project. This authentic engineering experience is something I will bring into my classroom everyday this year! This past summer I worked closely with Oakland Schools on a robotics program for their STEM camp. I was able to visit Oakland University each week for their STEM camp and learned some new projects I hope to incorporate this year. Outside of school I like to take my dog for walks, spend time with family and friends, cheer on the Detroit Red Wings and Michigan State Spartans, and bake.
