Writing: We have two tools that we use for our writing program. (1) Write from the Beginning is a developmental writing program for students K-5. The focus of the program is to give students the skills necessary for age-appropriate writing instruction and achievement.

(2) Thinking Maps are used in order to teach students how to develop and organize their ideas for writing.

If we are not working out of our Wonders book, your child will be working on a literature study. This may mean that your child will be expected to read independently, with a partner, in a group, and at times with a teacher the chosen chapter book for that lesson.

Social Studies and Science:

Our class will share time between Social Studies and Science. At times your child will experience these lessons integrated with other subjects. For example, your child may be working on a social studies report in writing.

4th Grade is responsible for the Science AIMS test each year. Your child will build a science journal that includes all of the topics that we have covered. They can use this journal to go back and review. (Key topics in 4th grade: Magnets and electricity, weather/climate, erosion/weathering, mountains, environments, life cycles, animal and plant adaptations).

Your child will be learning about the history and current facts about Arizona.
