HHS Counseling Mission/Vision
Horizon Counseling Mission:
Working collaboratively with PVSchools, our mission as school counselors aligns with the American School Counselor Association's vision. We are dedicated to engaging, inspiring, and nurturing students through high-quality instruction, meaningful educational opportunities, and dynamic learning experiences. We commit to working with students to support their personal, academic, and post-secondary plans, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their future endeavors.
Horizon Counseling Vision:
In the next five to fifteen years, we envision a future where every student is empowered to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential. We see a world where school counselors are respected as professionals who play a crucial role in students' lives, working closely with them to understand their unique needs, aspirations, and challenges. Through personalized guidance and comprehensive support, we aim to make a lasting impact on students' lives, helping them navigate their academic journey and transition smoothly into post-secondary education and beyond.
Our vision encompasses a holistic approach to student development, where personal and social support are integral components of their educational experience. We envision a future where every student feels understood, valued, and supported, fostering a positive school culture that promotes well-being and success for all. Together, with PVSchools, we are committed to knowing our students on a deeper level, empowering them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, and shaping a brighter future for generations to come.
HHS Counseling Action Plan
Counseling Action Plan
Counseling – School counselors meet with individual students upon student, parent, or teacher request throughout the year to check on academic and personal well-being of the student.
Academic Advising – Each individual Counselor monitors their students' academic progress in keeping with the student’s goals and school expectations.
Parent Conferences – Counselors schedule conferences as requested by the parent, teacher, student, or counselor.
Curriculum Planning – Students and counselors meet early in the spring to finalize course choices for the following school year.
College and Career Counseling – Counselors assist students with their academic and college plans and their career pathways through the Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP) Program. The Naviance program is utilized by students for academic, college, and career planning and research.
August: Counselors meet with Seniors and Juniors in individual conferences to discuss the college application process, review transcripts and discuss course pathways for the future.
September: Counselors meet with Sophomores and Freshmen in individual conferences to review transcripts and discuss course pathways for the future.
Ongoing: All students are invited and encouraged to attend scheduled meetings with college representatives who visit on campus with HHS students.
Ongoing: All students will receive a grade level appropriate ECAP Lesson in their Homeroom classes on designated days. These lesson plans are developed by the School Counselors and delivered by the classroom Teacher. All lessons align with ECAP and American School Counseling Association (ASCA) standards.
Transcript Requests: Official transcript requests for college applications are made by the students through Naviance. In June, final transcripts are sent automatically to colleges requested by seniors.
Confidentiality – All discussions and interactions between counselors, students, and parents are strictly confidential, except for any information which may reveal possible harm to the student or others, at which time parents and other professionals are alerted.
How to Request a Meeting?
Students are welcome to visit the Student Information Center (SIC) located in the hallway behind the front office and fill out a green pass in between periods.
Parents/Guardians are welcome to make appointments with the Counseling Administration Assistant by calling 602-449-6015. Counselors may also be available before/after school and during lunch.
In an emergency situation (harm to self/harm to others) Counselors should be immediately notified, no request is needed, either walk-in or call 602-449-6015. Any staff member can immediately connect you to a School Counselor.
